Webb’s Spider-Man, A Non-Reboot Reboot

Well it seems like things are starting to get into gear for this movie on the promotional end.
This weeks Entertainment Weekly has an article revealing some of the new details that most of us already knew.

One of the main things that has grabbed my attention about this movie thus far is the fact that Mark Webb and Marvel
have been claiming that this movie is not a reboot. Apparently this movie takes place somewhere within the timeline that Peter Parker is still in High-School and dealing with his new found spidey-isseus while balancing that with the bullying of Flash Thompson.

It might take some getting used to, the fact that this Spiderman movie is different in so many ways yet claiming not be a reboot.I have to admit, even though the original trilogy wasn’t bad I thought tobey and Kirsten and some other fodder character were poorly cast and that some of these characters were dramaticized to a way to far extent of their persona.

But spidey’s going back  to school, and so is Webb with his take on the story which is likely to be more true to the true marvel origin. So considering that this is not a reboot, that would make this installment the fourth in the series. Does this movie then count as a prequel???

If so some weird things happened within this time-line.
Let’s have a look shall we?

Spidey is now apparenty Attending Midtown Science High School a.k.a. MSHS.
I find it odd that a boy such as peter with the looks, wardrobe and haircut of mister Andrew Garfield still ends up being a the outcast geek nerd on a Highschool which specialises in science.

This is where he meets his first true love intrest, a character who will truly define the character of peter parker in events to come, the lovely and blond Gwen Stacy. Gwen is portrayed however by the Redheaded Emma Stone (They cast a blond to play redheaded MJ in the original three)  a recast, since we already got introduced to Gwen as a new character in Spiderman 3, where she was portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard. And according to that mythology, Peter and Gwen had met at university after his relationship with Mary Jane had started.

And guess what??? Uncle Ben still lives!!!! Poor Martin Sheen, his nephew is a masked wrestler with pubecent problems and his chances to be in any follow-up movies are slim. Why did daddy Sheen’s agent get him a role where the character is worth much more to story and the hero dead, then he is alive. Oh well, At least we have some “you’re body is going through some changes” jokes to look forward to again.

His big enemy this time around is the Lizard. His beloved science teacher Dr. Curt Conners. Wasn’t he also his University Science Teacher in the original 3? Guy with no arm? Guess he made a promotion. What bugs me though is that in these 3 original movies, not once is there a mention that the Doc turned into a humanoid rampaging Lizard. All us Comic-Scholars ofcourse understood that this character was an easter egg in the Raimi movies. But after their big battle in the prequel no-one remembers it afterward?

And now comes the most odd thing about this Non-Reboot Prequel.
Spiderman has mechanical webshooters. Didn’t tobey’s spiderbite give him organic webshooters?
Not that I mind, it’s more close to the roots of our true friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Now he only just needs to work on perfecting that outfit until we get our beloved outfit back.

With all this ranting said and done. I would like to point you out to the fact that this is my first real blog post.
I had fun writing it. And maybe… Just maybe, I’ll end up enjoying this blogging

I gotta though,
My princess is in another castle!
